Acute food insecurity, malnutrition, and erratic access to balanced meals remain critical threats to marginalized families, day laborers, and floating populations across low-income communities. Rising commodity prices frequently put nutritional food completely out of reach for vulnerable citizens, leading to chronic health issues and severe financial strain. The 10 Tk Food Distribution Project was designed as a creative, market-conscious response to hunger. The core purpose of the project is to make freshly cooked, nutritionally balanced meals accessible to economically challenged individuals at a token cost of just 10 Taka, actively preserving their personal dignity.
ROSA NGO implements this project by setting up highly efficient, hygienic community kitchens in areas with high poverty density. To support the regional agrarian economy, ingredients are sourced directly from local smallholder farmers, boosting the local market. The project involves local community leaders to ensure menus are culturally sensitive and targeted precisely at those in maximum need. Meals are sold at the subsidized rate of 10 Taka, creating a self-respecting commercial transaction rather than a standard charity line, while field teams track nutritional quality and beneficiary feedback.
The immediate outcome is a reliable, direct reduction in daily hunger and localized nutritional gaps among vulnerable populations. By providing an affordable, hot meal, the project allows day laborers to save their hard-earned money for other essential household expenses like education and health. Short-term impacts include improved caloric intake and enhanced daily energy levels. Over the long term, the project fosters deep social cohesion and solidarity by bringing diverse groups together around shared community tables, leveraging strategic partnerships with local food suppliers to ensure long-term commercial sustainability.
